I've driven past Arrowhead Automotive on Commerce Avenue maybe a hundred times — that stretch south of 12th where the buildings thin out and everything feels a little more industrial, a little less polished. I finally brought my car in last month after ignoring a check engine light for longer than I should admit.
The shop sits in one of those straightforward metal buildings that doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. No gleaming showroom, no leather couches in the waiting area. Just a counter, some chairs, and mechanics who actually answer your questions without the condescending tone I've gotten at other places. The guy at the desk — I think his name was Mike — walked me through what was wrong in a way that made sense, and more importantly, didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing what a throttle position sensor does.
They had my car done by end of day, which surprised me. Most places around here seem to operate on "we'll get to it when we get to it" time. The bill came in exactly where they quoted — no mysterious additions, no "oh we found this other thing" upsell that makes you wonder if they're making it up.
The 4.9 rating makes sense once you're there. It's competent work without the markup you'd get closer to 41st Street. Though I will say the waiting area could use better coffee — what they have tastes like it's been sitting since the Clinton administration. Small thing, but when you're killing an hour, it matters.
I've already told three people to go there. That's the real measure, I think — whether you'd send your friends. And yeah, I would.
