The Problem

Your business is already in The Directory. But unclaimed = invisible.

The Directory has 2,700+ Sioux Falls businesses indexed automatically. Yours is almost certainly one of them. Customers searching for what you sell — on Google, in ChatGPT, on Perplexity, in Gemini, asking Claude — can already find your name. What they can’t find is the version of your business you’d actually want them to see.

Unclaimed listings show only what the AI engines could scrape: a name, a category, maybe a phone number. No photos. No story. No FAQ that answers buyer questions before they call. No Heat Map score telling AI engines you’re the answer when someone asks “best [thing you do] in Sioux Falls.” When customers compare you to the claimed business two listings down, they see a thin profile next to a full editorial — and they pick the one that looks like a real business.

Claimed listings get roughly 4× the clickthrough of unclaimed ones in our data. Spotlight and Featured tiers get cited by name in AI search results — the new top-of-funnel that doesn’t exist on Google. The Directory is free to claim. The cost of leaving it unclaimed is paid every week in customers who picked someone else.

Heat Map Methodology

How your Heat Map score actually works.

Every claimed business gets a Heat Map score. It’s our proprietary local-authority + AI-visibility composite — not a vanity metric, the same signal we use internally to decide which businesses rank where in The Directory.

Heat Map is a 0-100 score that combines four signal layers. Local authority measures how many Sioux Falls citation sources point to you, how recent those signals are, and how consistent your name/address/phone data is across the open web. AI visibility measures how often you’re cited by name in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude responses to Sioux Falls buying-intent queries — sampled weekly across a rotating panel of ~200 prompts per category.

Content depth rewards businesses with editorial profiles, FAQ schema, photos, testimonials, and structured data — the things AI engines need to confidently cite you. Claimed listings start with a baseline. Spotlight and Featured tiers, because they ship with 700-1,200 word editorial and 10-question FAQ schema, ladder up Heat Map fast. Engagement closes the loop: clicks from The Directory to your site, time-on-profile, return visits, and clicks on your contact CTAs all feed back into the score.

Heat Map updates monthly for Claimed tier, weekly for Spotlight, and in real time for Featured. Your score shows on your profile, on category pages, and in your owner dashboard. What it means in practice: a Heat Map of 75+ means AI engines treat you as a primary citation source for your category. A score below 30 means you’re effectively invisible to AI search — which is what unclaimed listings look like.

What claimed business owners are saying.

Three Sioux Falls businesses across three tiers. Quotes are real, names are real, results are tracked in their owner dashboards.

We claimed in February, free tier. By April we were showing up in ChatGPT answers when someone asked for our category in Sioux Falls. Took 8 minutes. I have no idea why we waited a year.

Claimed tier · Boutique retail · Downtown

Spotlight was the move. Top-5 lock in our category, the editorial reads like a real magazine profile, and we’re getting four-to-six inbound calls a week directly from people who said “I found you on The Directory.” Pays for itself the first week of each month.

Featured isn’t cheap and it’s not supposed to be — you’re paying for the #1 pin sitewide, a podcast episode, the video, and the editorial Grace wrote that ChatGPT now quotes verbatim. We’ve never had a better customer acquisition channel for the spend.

Straight answers from a local team.

If your question isn’t here, email [email protected] — a real Sioux Falls human will answer within a business day.

Why is claiming free? What’s the catch?

There isn’t one. We built The Directory because Sioux Falls didn’t have an AI-citeable local index. Free claims grow the data quality of the index, which makes our paid tiers (Spotlight + Featured) more valuable for the businesses that upgrade. You can stay on free forever — lots of businesses do — and it costs you nothing.

How long does claiming actually take?

About 8 minutes of your time on the form, then 24 hours for us to verify ownership and publish. You can upload photos and write your blurb later from your owner dashboard. Most owners finish the whole thing in one sitting on lunch.

What’s the difference between Spotlight and Featured?

Spotlight ($299/mo, 6-month lock) locks you into the Top-5 of your category and gives you 700-900 word editorial, 10-question FAQ, and quarterly reports. Featured ($999/mo, capped at 10 per category) pins you at #1 sitewide, adds a podcast episode, a YouTube hero embed, a longer 1,000-1,200 word editorial, and monthly impressions reporting. Featured is for businesses that want the category-dominant position. Spotlight is for businesses that want strong placement without the podcast/video production overhead.

Do AI engines actually cite The Directory?

Yes — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude all currently surface Directory entries when asked about Sioux Falls businesses. We feed structured JSON-LD schema, OpenGraph, and a citation-friendly content layer specifically designed for AI engines. You can verify it yourself: ask Perplexity “best [your category] in Sioux Falls” and look at the source list.

Can I cancel anytime?

Claimed tier ($199/yr): cancel anytime, we refund the unused term pro-rata. Spotlight: 6-month minimum (because we lock placement and produce editorial — that work has to be paid for), then month-to-month after that. Featured: month-to-month from day one, no minimum. You can also step down a tier at renewal — from Featured to Spotlight to Claimed to free — without losing your verified status.

How is this different from Yelp or Google Business Profile?

Yelp and Google are general-purpose national platforms with national search behavior. The Directory is Sioux Falls-only, AI-engine-optimized, and editorial-led. Google Business Profile is built for Google Maps; The Directory is built for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. Both are worth having. They don’t overlap.

What if my business isn’t in The Directory yet?

If you’re a Sioux Falls business and we missed you, fill out the Tally claim form and we’ll add you within 48 hours. The 2,700+ count is current as of this week and grows weekly. New businesses get added free — same Claimed/Spotlight/Featured upgrade path.

How does the 10-spot Featured cap work?

Each category (e.g., “Roofers,” “Tax Accountants,” “Coffee Shops”) has at most 10 Featured spots, ever. When a category is full, new applicants go on a waitlist. This protects the value of Featured for the businesses paying $999/mo — the #1 pin actually means something when it’s capped. Spotlight Top-5 has the same logic.

Who writes the editorial — is it AI-generated?

Grace is our staff editor (yes, the name is a nod — she’s an AI editor we built and trained on Sioux Falls market context). She produces drafts; a human Sioux Falls editor reviews and edits every published profile before it goes live. The result reads like a local magazine, not a generic AI summary — which is exactly what makes the editorial citeable by ChatGPT and Perplexity.

What if I just want to update my unclaimed listing without claiming?

You can’t. Unclaimed listings are auto-generated from public sources — we don’t accept edits on them because we can’t verify the editor is the owner. Claiming is the only path to editing your listing, and it’s free, so the friction is just: do you want it to look the way you want it to look, or not?

Last Step

Stop being invisible to AI search. Claim your profile in 8 minutes.

2,700+ Sioux Falls businesses are already in The Directory. The ones that claimed are showing up in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude. The ones that didn’t are watching their competitors get cited instead.
