CJ Foods / Schwans

CJ Schwan's is constructing a massive Asian food production facility at Foundation Park in northwest Sioux Falls following CJ Foods' acquisition of a majority stake in Minnesota-based Schwan's in 2019. The company produces popular brands including Red Baron, Tony's, and Freschetta pizzas, Mrs. Smith's and Edwards desserts, and bibigo and Pagoda Asian-style foods. The 700,000-square-foot facility at Foundation Park represents a $550 million investment expected to employ 600+ workers upon completion in 2027, with 50 additional downtown office employees.

The facility features two state-of-the-art food production lines primarily manufacturing egg rolls and steamed dumplings supporting the bibigo brand and food service customers. Additional facilities include wastewater treatment plant, warehouse and distribution center, shipping and receiving docks, and office space. This project represents the largest single private investment in South Dakota history, with significant economic and employment impact for the greater Sioux Falls region.
