Harvey's Five Star Roofing

· 1108 W Blackhawk St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, USA

I drove past Harvey's Five Star Roofing on West Blackhawk last month — not far from where Russell dead-ends into that stretch of industrial buildings near the railyard — and there was a crew on someone's garage, moving like they'd done this a thousand times. No yelling, no music blasting from a truck. Just the rhythm of work that knows itself.

Twenty-three reviews, all five stars. I'm suspicious of perfect scores, always, but I read through them anyway. What struck me wasn't the "professional" or "timely" — every contractor promises that — it was the specificity. People mentioned Kenny by name. They talked about a crew that showed up when they said they would, which in Sioux Falls construction time is basically a miracle. One homeowner over in the Cathedral district said they cleaned up so well she couldn't tell they'd been there except for the new roof.

I've seen enough bad roofing jobs in this town to know what matters. The way water pools wrong after a spring storm. The shingles that start lifting after one hard winter. The callbacks that never come. Harvey's has been doing residential and commercial work here since 2013, which means they've weathered our weather — the hail that comes out of nowhere in June, the ice dams, the wind that tries to peel everything back to studs.

They're not the flashiest operation. The website is straightforward, maybe a little plain. But I think that's the point. This is a business built on coming back to fix your neighbor's roof because your neighbor recommended them. On knowing that a roof in Sioux Falls isn't just shingles — it's the thing between your family and everything the sky throws down.

The kind of work that doesn't need to sell itself twice.
