Jacky's Burrito Express

· 2315 W 12th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, USA

I've driven past Jacky's on 12th Street probably fifty times before I finally pulled in — one of those beige strip mall spots that doesn't announce itself, just sits there next to a tax office and a nail salon doing steady business while the rest of us blow past on our way to something shinier.

The first thing you notice inside is the speed. Not frantic speed — efficient speed. The kind that comes from making the same ten things exceptionally well for years. I ordered a California burrito on a Wednesday lunch and watched the line behind me grow and then disappear in waves, everyone getting fed, everyone getting out.

The burrito itself was enormous — genuinely two-meal enormous, which I always say I'll save half of and never do. Rice fluffy, beans seasoned right, carne asada with actual char on it. The California version gets fries inside, which sounds like college food until you taste how the crisp edges hold up against everything else. I ate it in my car in the parking lot because sometimes that's the move.

What isn't perfect: it's loud during the rush, and the seating area feels more like an afterthought than a destination. This is takeout infrastructure with a few tables thrown in. But I think that's also why it works — Jacky's knows what it is. No oversized sombreros on the walls, no performance of authenticity, just a menu of burritos and tortas and tacos that South Siouxland has clearly voted on with their feet.

The 787 reviews aren't an accident. I've started keeping Jacky's in my rotation for those days when I need actual food that costs less than fifteen dollars and doesn't require me to explain what I want. Order at the counter, get your number, eat something that tastes like someone's been making it the same way since before everyone had an opinion about whether cilantro belongs on things.
