Nathaniel's Barbershop

· 1401 W 10th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, USA

I've driven past the strip mall at 10th and Kiwanis probably a hundred times without noticing Nathaniel's tucked into the corner unit. That's the thing about good barbershops in Sioux Falls — they don't need to announce themselves. The people who need to know, know.

Nathaniel runs a chair-by-appointment setup through StyleSeat, which means you're not walking into some generic queue situation. You book your slot, you show up, you sit down with someone who remembers what you asked for last time. I watched him work through a lineup one Saturday afternoon — the kind of steady, methodical cuts that don't rush but don't waste time either. Clippers, scissors, straight razor work that actually looks intentional.

The space itself is small, maybe three chairs, nothing fancy. Which is exactly right. I'm not here for exposed brick and craft cocktails while I wait — I'm here because my friend Jake has been going for two years and his fade grows out better than most barbers cut it fresh. That's the tell. When the shape holds for three weeks instead of three days, someone knows what they're doing.

The 4.6 rating tracks with what I'd expect — most people are thrilled, a few probably showed up without an appointment or wanted something Nathaniel knew wouldn't work with their hair type and got told so. He's not the guy who says yes to everything. He's the guy who'll tell you that cut you saw on Instagram needs different hair than what's on your head.

It's west side location too, which matters if you live anywhere near Harrisburg or Tea and don't want to fight your way to downtown Phillips Avenue just to get cleaned up. I think that's half of why his book stays full — convenience plus competence is rarer than it should be.
