PostalAnnex

· 5013 S Louise Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57108, USA

I've driven past PostalAnnex on Louise at least a hundred times without registering what it actually does — tucked in that strip near 49th, across from the HuHot, it's easy to miss if you're not looking. But then I needed to ship something weird and fragile to my sister in Portland, and the guy behind the counter at PostalAnnex didn't blink. Just asked me three smart questions, wrapped it like he was handling museum glass, and told me which carrier would get it there intact for less money.

That's the thing about this place — it's not trying to be your friendly neighborhood post office, and it's definitely not trying to be a UPS Store. It's somewhere in between, staffed by people who actually know the difference between Priority Mail and Priority Express, who can print your real estate documents at 7 PM on a Wednesday, who stock boxes in sizes the USPS gave up on years ago. I've seen a woman come in with a stack of international customs forms looking defeated, and the staff just handled it — no sighing, no pointing her to a website, just actual help.

The space itself is functional in that South Dakota way — clean, bright, zero pretense. There's a notary available most days, mailbox rentals if you're running a side business out of your Whittier bungalow and need a real address, and packing supplies that don't cost double what they should. It's the kind of spot you don't appreciate until you need it, and then you're annoyed you didn't know about it sooner.

The only catch is the hours — they close at 6 PM on weekdays, 3 PM on Saturday, which feels early if you work a normal job. But when I've made it there in time, I've never regretted the drive down Louise.
