Sioux Area Metro Sam
The Sioux Area Metro (SAM) is the local governmental transit agency in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the state's largest public transportation operator. SAM provides multiple scheduled fixed routes and paratransit services to the community. In December 2023, city council voted unanimously to select Via as technology and operations partner, modernizing the system. In 2024, the system had 559,400 riders or about 1,800 per weekday as of third quarter 2025.
SAM Transit operates a fleet of 26 fixed-route buses and 13 paratransit buses running on biodiesel, providing environmentally conscious transportation. The new and improved bus lines run more frequently than previously, 6 days a week. Sioux Falls Paratransit extends service to persons with disabilities with ADA-accessible buses equipped with wheelchair lifts. The system offers both fixed-route and on-demand ride options, providing flexible transportation solutions for Sioux Falls residents.
